LOCAL AFFAIRS, SEPT 1891 B LOCAL AFFAIRS PUBLISHED IN THE FRANKLIN PRESS, Sept. 30, 1891 - Vol. VI, No. 28 - There is a lively demand for seed wheat. - Burningtown Locals crowded out this week. - Mr. Alf Thompson, of Seneca, S.C., is in town. - Dr. S.H. Lyle has treated himself to a handsome new buggy. - Mr. N.G. Allman is getting lumber on the ground for his new residence. - The Franklin High school now numbers about 70 pupils, and is progressing nicely. - Mr. H.G. Trotter has commenced work on his fine new dwelling which will be pushed rapidly to completion. - Mr. Wayne Myers is building a new dwelling on Iotla street, which will be a neat cottage when finished. - Died, September 24th at 1 o'clock A.M., James Boynton Curtis, son of Wm. A. and Mary R. Curtis, agd 7 years, 6 months and 21 days. - Mr. A.S. Bryson, of our town, had on exhibition at Mr. R.L. Porter's store last Saturday, a bucket of Irish potatoes of the Burbank variety that were large, smoothe and fine as any we have seen lately. - Messrs. James and Jesse Porter, of Valleytown, N.C., spent a day or two of the past week visiting friends in Franklin. The former is abrother of Mr. R.L. Porter and the latter a brother of our Jim Porter. - Miss Antoinette Dills, daughter of Henry Dills, of Cartoogechaye, died August 28th, age 35 years. Also James Augustus, son of Samuel Dills, of Cartoogechaye died Sept. 26th, aged 4 months, 8 days. - Our devil has purchased a pair of woolly goats of pretty large dimensions, and the old "Billey" has long and crooked horns and he is in training to be used to help settle the accounts of our delinquent subscribers. We wish him enormous success. - Mr. W.B. Merritt, of Orange county, N.C., who has recently purchased the P.P. McLean farm on Cowee, was in town yesterday. He appears to be an intelligent and affable gentleman, and expects to make his home in our county.
