MACON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - NATHAN G. ALLMAN, FEB. 17, 1892 Published in the Franklin Press, Feb. 24, 1892 - Vol. VI, No. 49 DEATH OF N.G. ALLMAN Mr. Nathan G. Allman was born in Haywood County, NC, January 5, 1818. He was married to Miss Louisa Rhineheart, of Haywood county, February 7, 1839. He removed to Franklin in 1846, and was one of the earlier settlers of this town and at the time of his death, was the oldest living inhabitant, having lived continuously in the town 46 years. He had by his first wife only two children, Mrs. M.A Love and W.C. Allman, both living now. He has the misfortune to lose his first wife who died March 6, 1878. He was again married February 23, 1876, to Mrs. Mary Dean, a widow lady, of Fair Play, S.C., who survives him. The general business of his life was merchandising and keeping hotel by which he accumulated a good property. He enjoyed a good character for honesty and uprightness in his dealings with his fellowmen. Although he had been afflicted for several years, his last serious attack of sickness commenced about two months before his death, and for several weeks he was unable to leave his bed. On February 1st, he made a profession of faith and was baptized and received into the Methodist church by Dr. C.D. Smith. Death relieved him of his sufferings at 1 o'clock on the morning of February 17, 1892. His age at the time of his death was 74 years. His funeral sermon was preached by Dr. Smith and the burial service was conducted by Rev. D. H. Comann, assisted by Rev. R.E. Lentz. He was buried in the Methodist Church cemetery on the evening of February 17th, in the presence of a large congregation of his friends. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
