MACON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - MASON GRIST & MRS. W.M. DARNELL, NOV 1892 Published in the Franklin Press, Nov. 23, 1892 - Vol. VII, No. 6 A DOUBLE FUNERAL Mr. Mason grist, of Rabun Gap, Ga., died of pneumonia on last Thursday evening, Nov. 17th at 7 o'clock, at the age of 77 years. Mrs. W.M. Darnell, of Rabun Gap, Ga., died of dropsy of the heart on last Friday morning, Nov. 18th, at 7 o'clock, at the age of 65 years. The homes of these two people were about three fourths of a mile apart. On last Saturday at 12 o'clock two wagons drove up to the door of the Baptist church, two coffins were taken out and placed side by side in the church, and Revs. R.S. Saunders and W.A. Simmons conducted the funeral services. After the service the two coffins were carried to the cemetery and placed in the graves at the same time. Such a scene was never before witnessed in that community. Mr. Grist had been a member of the Baptist church for 47 years, and Mrs. Darnell had been a member of the Methodist church for 34 years. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
