MACON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - MRS. JANE HIGDON, MAR. 12, 1891 Published in the Franklin Press, April 8, 1891 - Vol. VI, No. 3 Death has been in our midst and has taken from mortal existence one who we all loved. Mrs. Jane Higdon, wife of Maj. W.H. Higdon, her surviving husband, died at her home on Ellijay, in Macon county, N.C., March 12, 1891. She was born in Burke county, N.C., in 1814; was married to W.H. Higdon December 3, 1836; professed faith in Christ many years ago, and was baptized into the fellowship of the Baptist Church by Elder Adam Corn. She possessed many good and lovable qualities, and best of all, was an exemplary Christian. Her sufferings were great, and at the approach of night, seemed intense, but she had an abiding faith in God, and more than once said: "What a happy exchange it would be for me should my bodily pain end this night!" Finally the summon came, and at the advanced age of 76 years and some months, she crossed the threshold of death. Mortal ear will hear her voice no more, but we find consolation in the belief that she has gone where there is a rest for the people of God. Disappointment is not so great when God has the management of our affairs. Old Mother Higdon has no doubt realized such promises as these: "As the Father hath loved me, even so have I loved you;" "I have loved thee with an everlasting love."
