J. Kelly, Pioneer Citizen of Winder, Dies in 86th Year. Winder, Ga., March 5- Nim J. Kelly, one of the oldest citizens of Winder, died at his home Monday. He was born in Macon County, North Carolina, and lacked only a few days of being 86 years old. During the war between the states he served the entire four years with the Sixty-Second North Carolina regiment in the army of northern Virginia under Lee. Following the war he settled in Gwinnett county, Georgia, about three miles north of Winder, bringing with him other settlers from North Carolina. At one time he was one of the most extensive farmers and largest land owner in this section, later selling out his farming interests and moving to Winder, where he became one of the leading merchants, bankers and business men of the city. He was one of the founders of the Winder National bank, and until he retired from active business was one of the bank's directors. He was a charter member of Winder lodge No. 333, A. F. & A. M., and served in every office of the lodge. Mr. Kelly was a member of the First Baptist church of Winder, a prime mover in its organization, one of its deacons and influential in erecting the new church building a few years ago. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Jane Cosby, of Gwinnett county, and his second wife being Miss Ella Kelly, of Jackson county, who died a few years ago. He had no children nor any relatives in this immediate section. He is survived by the following nephews and nieces: S. J. Kelly, Jefferson; J. P. Kelly, Atlanta; Nim Allen, of Marietta; Than Allen, of Cornelia; Sam Allen, of Montezuma, and Mrs. Lessie Cunningham, Miss Lessie Kelly and Miss Octa Kelly, all of Franklin, N. C. Kelly appears in the 1850 census, Macon county, Tennessee Valley district, as the son of Samuel Kelly, age 51, born in Tennessee, and his wife, Mary Kelly, age 48, born in Virginia.
