             OBITUARY
   THOMAS H. RUSSELL, son of MATTHEW N. and CHARITY RUSSELL, was born in Macon 
County, N. C., on the 27th of April 1840, and died on the 19th day of 
November, 1860, aged 20 years, six months and 19 days. For some two years he 
suffered much from a complicated disease of the liver and lulngs, during which 
he bore his affliction with much patience. He was a member of the Methodist 
Church. As a son and brother he was kind and affectonate, as a student he was 
obedient and attentive; a favorite in the school-room and beloved by all who 
knew him.
