MACON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - JOSEPH REYNOLDS, FEB. 11, 1891 Published in the Franklin Press, Thursday Mar. 11, 1891 - Vol. V, No. 51 Shooting Creek, Clay Co., N.C. - On the 11th day of Feb., 1891, at the residence of his father, Joseph Reynolds departed this life in his 22nd year. In his death, Shooting Creek Alliance No. 1710 has lost a good and true member, his neighborhood an upright, valuable citizen, and his father and mother, brothers and sisters, their best earthly benefactor. He was a consistent Christian and exercised a great influence by his Christian walk and Godly conversation. He leaves his friends and acquaintances to mourn his death. No man knew Joseph Reynolds without admiring his integrity and his Christian resignation. In his last moments he expressed his great willingness to trust his spirit in the keeping of that Savior whom he had adorned adn worshiped for some time. The burial services were conducted by N.N. Rogers, the Chaplain of his Alliance, at the graveyard. After the services the Farmer's Alliance concluded the services to a large audience with the imposing ceremonies of that order. A Lumber of Alliancemen and other friends participated in the burial of our brother, Joseph Reynolds. His body was laid to rest in the grave yard and all who were present felt grieved at the loss of so good and upright a young man. He always spoke the truth and was always found in company with the best society. He was mild in his manners and always to everybody, but we are cheered by the thought that he had only changed his earthly habitation for a mansion beyond the skies, hoping his Alliance will follow his example; we will now miss him and his presence and his seat will be vacant in his Alliance.
