I only desire with regard to my body that it be buried in a decent & Christian like manner. This I trust to my Executor hereinafter named. As to the property that it has pleased God to bless me with, I direct as follows (viz.) My three living children and my deceased son Curtis Ledford have each received from me such property as I then felt able to give them. Curtis received less than the others, & John H. Ledford more. This I intended for reasons then operating with me. To John H. Ledford I gave the negro boy Jack that he now has in possession & the tract of land on which he now lives Tho [though] he has a deed from me acknowledging the receipt of one thousand dollars it was nonetheless a gift & the consideration named was matter of form addopted by the drawer of it. I also gave him other property. To my son Hiram Ledford I gave money & the property that I placed in his hands. To my daughter Elizabeth & her husband William F. Passmore I have given a negro woman Jane & child & other property such as I allowed for them. I confirm all the donations heretofore made to each & every one of them & do not desire that they be required to account any part of it. I further will & devise to my son John H. Ledford the plantation on which I now live & the adjoining tract of land being all the land I now own; to him & his heirs & assigns forever. As to the balance of my property of whatever nature or kind I direct it to be sold on a credit of twelve months by my Executor to the highest bidder & the procedes [proceeds] of the sale together with any & all moneys on hand & debts due to me at the time of my death when collected by my Executor I desire & direct shall be equally divided between my two Sons John H. Ledford & Hiram Ledford & the Children of my Deceased son Curtis Ledford by his wife Cassa being eight or nine in number. Their names as well as recollected Allison, Mary, Andrew H., Curtis, Fletcher, Cassa, Emily & Thomas. They live in the State of Georgia & are not well known to me. But it is intended that all of said Curtis Ledford’s Children by his said wife shall share equally & alike & taken together that they shall represent their Deceased Father & take one third, & the said John H. & Hiram each one third of said money, debts, & the procedes [proceeds] of the sales of the personal property aforesaid. As to my said Daughter Elizabeth & her husband William F. Passmore I think I have done my duty & do not intend them or either of them to have any thing more from me or my estate in any way. I hereby make & appoint my son John H. Ledford my Executor of this my last will & testament. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 14th day of September 1844.
