Mrs. M'Elroy Is Laid To Rest
Wife Of Prominet Jurist Paid Tribute At Funeral

Funeral service for Mrs. P. A. McElroy, wife of Judge P. A. McElroy,
presiding judge of the 19th Judicial District, who passed away Friday, in a
hospital in North Wilkesboro, N. C., after a short, but serious illness of
several days, was conducted at the McElroy home here Sunday at 10 o'clock.
Rev. C. B. Newton, pastor of the Marshall M. E. church, South, of which the
deceased was a consistent and devoted member for many years, officiated.  He
was assisted by Rev. Horace L. Smith, pastor of the Marshall Baptist church,
and Rev. J. T. M. Knox, pastor of the Marshall Presbyterian church.  The
service was attended by a large host of friends and relatives of Mrs.
McElroy, who had lived here for many years.  The floral offerings were
profuse, and very beautiful.
Interment followed at the Pritchard cemetery, near Marshall, where a short
service was also held.

Mrs. McElroy left here with Judge McElroy about three weeks ago for North
Wilkesboro, where her husband was to preside over a term of court.  Shortly
after their arrival, Mrs. McElroy became ill, and was in a serious condition
until death came.  The Members of her family here were notified of her
illness and left for her bedside, where they remained until the end.

Surviving are her husband, three sons, John H. McElroy, prominent Marshall
attorney, Pender McElroy, Jr., of Marshall, and Lawrence McElroy, a student
at the University of North Carolina, and one daughter, Mrs. Carl Stuart,
also two sisters, [Mrs. B.? C.? Ramsey, this was hard to read] of Walnut and
Mrs. [Hal ? this was hard to read] Adams, of Virginia, and one brother,
Ernest Hardwick, of Winston-Salem.

Mrs. McElroy was the daughter of Dr. Hardwick, pioneer physician of Madison
County.
