Mrs. J. L. Phillips, age 79, widely known and beloved resident of the Mars
Hill section, died at 4:45 o'clock Monday morning at her home near Mars
Hill.

The funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at
[??]briel's Creek Baptist church with Rev. W. B. Sprinkle, the Rev. L. Olive
and the Rev. H. P. Sprinkle officiating.  Mrs. Phillips is survived by four
sons, C. L., of Marshall, J. C., [Canton?], and J. P., and S. L. Phillips of
Mars Hill; three daughters; [The paper is torn here and I can not read the
