MADISON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARY - R. H. Proffitt, 11 Apr 1927 ----¤¤¤¤---- Asheville Times (Carried over from last week) Microfilm page 93 Mr. R. H. Proffitt, age 44, of Asheville, route No.1, departed this life Monday, April 11, 1927, at 10:35 o'clock. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, Mrs. Victoria Proffitt; one daughter, Thelma; one son Bernard; all of Asheville, Route 1; four brothers, David Proffitt of Bald Creek, Wade Proffitt, Grover Proffitt, and Sherald Proffitt of Flag Pond, Tenn; and four sisters, Mrs. Harriet Fender, Mrs. Sarah Johnson and Mrs. Mary Capps, of Flag Pond, Tenn. and Mrs. Ella Ferguson of Bald Creek. He also leaves beside these several other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Quinton, pastor of the Riverside Baptist church from Grape Vine church, the home church of Mrs. Proffitt. Among those from off Grape Vine who attended the funeral services were about 175 from Mr. Proffitt's home, and his brothers and sisters with their families. The pall bearers were Messrs. T. W. Corn, R. M. Williams, H. I [L.?] Carter, Coy Banks McKinley Ramsey, and Vaughn Fisher. Interment was in Grape Vine Cemetery. The flower girls were Misses Velma Coates, Mildred Coates, Erie Gosnell, Ellen Allen, Helen Fisher, Robbie Laughter, Sadie Honeycutt, and Bernice Lunsford. Mr. Proffitt is a former citizen of Madison County. On April 5, 1904, he and Miss Victoria Gosnell of Madison County, were married. They made their home in Madison the first sixteen years of their wedded life. They have lived at Woodfin, (Asheville, R. 1.), the past seven years. He was a member of New Bridge Baptist church and left a bright hope for his prospects of Heaven. For the past sixteen years Mr. Proffitt has been in the goods business. Mr. Proffitt was a man loved by all who knew him. We were all sorry to give up such a man as he, but we must now only prepare to meet him on the other shore, where heartaches and parting will be known no more. We all express to the bereaved family our deepest sympathy, and pray that the Lord will fill the vacancy that can be filled by no earthly person. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
