MADISON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARY - Ambrose Randall, 21 Apr 1929 ----¤¤¤¤---- Asheville Citizens Newspaper Date: 4-26-1929 Microfilm page 133 Ambrose Randall Murdered Farmer of Doe Branch, Near Barnard, Found Dead. Herman Anderson In Jail. The body of Ambrose Randall, of the Doe Branch section of Madison County near Barnard, was found on the side of the road Sunday. At first it was reported that his throat had been slashed, but later reports were to the effect that death had been caused by a bullet. The Coroner's inquest resulted in a verdict that the dead man had come to his death by a gun shot wound caused by some other person and that the Sheriff arrest the guilty party if possible. About ten o'clock that night Herman Anderson was locked up in the county jail charged with the murder. Mr. Randall, aged 44, was said to be a well known farmer and good citizen and at one time was a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Ramsey, who pronounced him a splendid officer. Funeral services were Tuesday morning at ten o'clock, interment following at the Big Pine cemetery. Mr. Randall leaves his wife, sister of Mr. Wm. Worley of Marshall, and three children, Pearl, Torry, and Albert. He also leaves two brothers, Erwin and Johnnie, both of Madison County. Herman Anderson, held for the murder of Mr. Randall, is said to be a cousin of "Wild Bill" Anderson, who is now in jail charged with the murder of Bill Tyson. It is said that young Anderson, age 20, had been paying attention to Mr. Randall's daughter, to which the father of the girl objectd. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
