MADISON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARY - Jobe Rice, 23 Aug 1929 ----¤¤¤¤---- Asheville Citizens Newspaper Date: 8-30-1929 Microfilm page 134 Jobe Rice Dead Mr. Jobe Rice of the Walnut Creek section, died at his home about 8:30 o'clock Friday morning, August 23, 1929, age 85. Mr. Rice had not been sick, but seems to have given out almost suddenly form old age, living only a day or two after falling asleep. His going was quite peaceful. Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from Enon church, conducted by Rev. J. C. Pipes and younger brother, also Rev. Mr. Pipes, and Rev. R. H. Morgan, a former pastor. Interment followed at the family graveyard near the church. Acting as pallbearers were his grandsons as follows: Lee West, Glenn West, Emmett West, Frank Sprinkle, Liston Sprinkle, Lloyd Sprinkle, Auburn Sprinkle. His granddaughter carried the flowers---Mrs. C. A. Redmon, Mrs. Belle Sprinkle, Miss Flossie Sprinkle, and Miss Nellie West, and several younger granddaughters. Mr. Rice is survived by one brother, Mr. Jim West of Walnut, and six children as follows: Mrs. Eliza Chandley of Greensboro, N. C. and five of Walnut Creek--Jim Rice, Mrs. W. H. West, Mrs. Alice Sprinkle, Mrs. Lee Ramsey, and Mr. Jasper Rice. Mr. Rice was a founder of Enon Baptist church and a large contributor as long as he lived.
