MADISON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARY - Mr. W. R. "Rom" Rice, 15 Mar 1935 ----¤¤¤¤---- Asheville Citizens Newspaper date 3-21-1935 Microfilm page 3-21-1935 Mr. W. R. Rice Deceased On Friday morning, at 3 o'clock, March 15, 1935, Mr. W. R. Rice better known to his many friends as "Rom," aged fifty-three years, suddenly passed away. Heart trouble was the cause of his death. His death was a shock to the whole Laurel Branch community in which he lived. He was a man who meant much to his community and will be greatly missed by his host of friends. He was a member and deacon of the Free Will Baptist church at S[..ion?], and was greatly interested in the progression of the church and it's work. The funeral was conducted Saturday morning at 11:00 o'clock at Ball Creek church by the Revs. D. K. Caba [?], G. W. Briggs, Wade White and L. C. Roberts. The honorary pallbearers were Homer L. Sams, R. C. Eller, John Roberts, Elbert Bishop, Horace Arrowood and Dr. J. O. Rice. The active pallbearers were the nephews of the deceased, Dewey and Horace Ri[ce?] Warren, Messers, Woodfin and Job Henry Capps, and Raymond Burrell. The flower girls were nieces of the deceased, Misses Omie and Gyps[?] Rice, Zora and Bertha Capps, Fut[??] Gosnell and Mrs. woodfin Capps. Mr. Horace Arrowood had charge of the choir. Surviving Mr. Rice is his widow and the following children: Ka[??] Fonse, Wade, Clara Carrie, Evely Lavenia, Mrs. Mildred Maxwell, Marshall, and Mrs. Bonnie Barker, Asheville, his mother, Mrs. J. J. Rice one sister, Mrs. Mollie Capps; and brothers, Dedrick, Dillard, Murr[??] and McKinley Rice, all of Marshall and Thomas Henry and Douglas R[???] of Mars Hill.
