MADISON COUNTY, NC - OBITUARY - Lee Rix, 17 Jun 1932 ----¤¤¤¤---- Asheville Citizens Newspaper Date: 5-24-1932 Microfilm page 196 Lee Rix, highly respected colored man of Marshall, passed away at his home on the W. H. Morrow lot Friday morning. He had been in declining health for some time and his passing was not unexpected. He had been a servant in the W. H. Morrow home for the last twenty-seven years, trusted, trustworthy, and faithful. His going was felt almost as much as if a member of the family had gone. Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, in the yard of the Morrow home, conducted by Rev. Pettoway, of Asheville, pastor of the church of the colored people at Marshall, Ponder's Chapel, assisted by Rev. Wm. C. Bount [Blount?], of the Marshall Baptist church. The service was conducted in a dignified manner, and both ministers paid the deceased a beautiful tribute. Practically all the colored people of the community and a large assembly of white people attended the last rites of the deceased. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
