The semi-weekly messenger (Wilmington NC) 11 January 1898
Miss Mary Stanley, a young lady of Marshall, committed suicide last Thursday by
drowning herself. Two young men, who were some distance off, saw the young woman
leap into the river, and went to her rescue, but life was extinct when they
reached her.
