Harbour R.R. 1, Box 327 Pueblo, Colorado Dear Madam: Reference is made to your letter in which you request the Revolutionary War records of Abram and William Wiggins of North Carolina. Because of the great demand for Revolutionary War data and the limited clerical force available for furnishing such information, it is not possible to comply in full with each request pertaining to soldiers of that war. The record of William Wiggins is furnished herein as found in his claim for pension, S.1739, based upon his service in the Revolutionary War. William Wiggins was born in the year 1759 or 1760, in Martin County, North Carolina; the names of his parents are not shown. While residing near Roanoke River, in Halifax County, North Carolina, he enlisted April 1, 1781, served as a private in Captains Hargrove's and Barry Grimes' companies, Colonels William Linton's and Kenyon's North Carolina regiments, was in the battle of Rock Fish Creek in which he was injured above the knee in his right thigh, and was discharged just after the surrender of Cornwallis. He was allowed pension on his application executed August 22, 1832, at which time he resided in Montgomery County, Tennessee. He made no reference to wife or children; however, he referred to an older sister, but did not state her name. In order to obtain the date of last payment of pension, name and address of the person paid, and, possibly, the date of death of this pensioner, you should apply to the Comptroller General, General Accounting Office, Records Division, this city, and furnish the following: William Wiggins Certificate #22005 Issued September 25, 1833 Rate $21.66 per annum Commenced March 4, 1832 Tennessee Agency Very truly yours, A.D.
