The Raleigh Standard, May 4, 1859
     DEPARTED THIS LIFE, on Saturday, the 2nd day of April, at nine o'clock P. 
M., at his residence near Hamilton, Martin County, N. C., JESSE COOPER, in the 
83rd year of his age, after a severe illness of ten months, from a fall from a 
pair of bars, which caused a fracture of the capsule joint of the hip, which 
disabled him so that he was never afterwards able to walk. He was for several 
years a member in the State Legislature of North Carolina and also in the 
Convention of 1835. He has  left a disconsolate widow and several children to 
mourn his loss.
