W. J. Miller Sr., Died on Friday:

William John Miller Sr, 76 year old merchant of Marshall Avenue, 
Williamston, died at the home of his son, John Miller Jr,on Halifax Street 
at 10:30 Friday night following a brief critical illness but a long period 
of declining health. He was born in Edenton June 12, 1898, son of William 
Miller and wife. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in 
Williamston and was married to the former Emma Morgan in December, 1918. 
She survives. The family moved to Williamston in 1937 when he opened the 
Western Auto Store on Main Street. He later changed to the Goodrich chain 
and moved to Washingotn Street near Main, retiring from active management 
of the store in 1964.

Surviving besides his wife are one son, William John Miller Jr., of 
Williamston, and one daughter, Betty Jo Rountree of Virginia Beach, Va., 
one sister, Mrs. Henry J. White of Edenton and one brother Jesse Miller 
also of Edenton, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 from Memorial Baptist 
Church with a former pastor, the Rev. Gordon Conklin of Kinston, 
officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
