From original in the family papers (postmark Mar. 5, 1956) to Mr. John James Ross of Edenton, NC. "Mrs. Hattie Nelson Ross With a very sad heart we attempt to write this in memory of our dear sister--Mrs. Hattie Nelson Ross. She was indeed a most faithful devoted member always discharging every duty in the church as well as her neighborhood visiting the sick seemed a pleasure as well as a duty. She shared her faith by her works which all are commanded to do. We miss her presence and sweet smiles in our midst more than we can express and greatly mourn our loss but our loss is her eternal gain for she manifested every evidence of Christianity which should be an inspiration to us all. What a wonderful exchange when God sends the angel of death to bear His loved ones away into that land that is fairer than day where the father waits over the shore where He has prepared us a dwelling place of complete joy and never ending happiness to all those who love His appearing and when He takes them unto Himself in glory the need for faith and hope will be done away but when they see Him face to face will be satisfied forever more. Sister Ross was born near parmale [Parmele] in 1884 and in 1902 she was married to James A Ross who is also deceased. She made her home in Robersonville Martin Co. where she had many friends. In the Autumn of last year she sold her home here and made her home with her son John James Ross in Edenton where she lived about six months prior to her death. She passed away on Jan. 1st very suddenly and peacefully and safe in the arms of Jesus. The church at Robersonville sustains a great loss in her passing. We ask Gods richest blessing and His sustaining grace may be bestowed upon bereaved son and each of her sisters, brothers as well as all her relatives whurn her passing. Her funeral was conducted by Elders Stevenson, A.B. Ayers and W.E. Grimes and she was laid to rest by the side of her husband beneath a mound of beutiful flowers in Robersonville Cemetery. We resolve that a copy of this be sent to Zions Landmark and one to her family. Done by order of Conference on Sat. before first Sun. in Feb. Elder Stevenson Mod. Leona Moore Clerk Com. Mrs. O. P.
