Surname is spelled Bennitt in the will. Martin Co Will Book 2, page 52. I, JOEL BENNETT, being in a low state of bodily health, but having my perfect mind and memory, knowing that all must die, do make this my last will and testament as followeth, viz.: I leave all my houses and lots in the town of Williamston to be sold, and all my perishable property also to be sold for the purpose of paying my last debts. Item, I give to my wife, ELISABETH BENNETT, all my lands left me by the will of my father. Item, I lend all my Negroes to my wife, ELISABETH BENNETT, for the term of fifteen years, and then to be equally divided between my wife, ELISABETH BENNETT, my son, BRYAN BENNETT, and my daughter, ELIZA BENNETT. Item, I give to my wife, ELISABETH BENNETT, all the lands which I purchased of my brother WILLIAM BENNETT.
