Mason http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00022.html#0005225 March 20, 2019, 1:52 pm Source: Clerk Of Court Office Martin Co., Nc Written: 1801 Vol. 1-2, p. 418 Will of William HOOTEN, Jr. 14 May 1801 In the Name of God, Amen; I, William HOOTEN of Martin County, in the State of North Carolina being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God, and Calling to mind the mortality of my body that it is appointed for all men once to die & do make this my Last Will and Testament, Imprimis, I recommend my Soul unto God, that Gave it and my Body to the earth to be buried in a descent Christian Like Manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter named, and as touching my worldly, Estate as it has pleased almighty God to bestow upon me, I Give and devise at the same in the following Manner: Item) I leave unto my beloved wife Ann HOOTON her right dower on all the land or lands I do or may possess during her natural life and she to be deposed of as I shall direct. Item) I give and bequeath unto my daughter Liza HOOTEN all my Land or lands I do or may possess to her and her disposal yet so that if she should die without Lawfull heirs be gotten on her body or before she becomes to the age of Twenty one years the said Land or lands should revert back unto my Beloved wife Ann HOUTEN and to her disposal. Item) Leave all the remaining part of my Estate consisting of Negroes and money? in —— to be divided between my beloved wife Ann HOUTEN and my Daughter Liza HOOTEN as the Law shall direct, and that the Childs part shall be carefully put out to the best advantage for the child, yet so that if my Daughter should die without Lawfull Heirs begotten on her Body ro before she come to the age of Twenty one, then and in that case my will and desire is and I hereby Give and bequeath unto my Sister, Nancy BISSELL one Negro Girl but he name of AMEY to her and her disposal. Item) I give and bequeath unto my Sister, Mary ASHBURN one negro Girl but he name of BETT to her and her disposal and that all the remaining part and conditionally Given to my Daughter Liza shall revert to my Beloved wife Ann HOOTEN and to her disposal, and if any neglect should appear respecting my Daughter Liza HOOTEN with in —— or manners, I hereby authorize my executors to take her immediately under their care, Lastly I make Constitute and ordain my Beloved wife Ann HOOTEN my Executrix and my friend Federick LAWRENCE & William ASHBURN executors to this my Last Will and Testament revoking and diannuling all other wills before by me made. Testifying and Confirming this and none other to be my Last Will and Testament whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 14th day of May one Thousand eight hundred one.
