I Michael King of the State of North Carolina Martin county being of sound and perfect mind & memory blessed by Almighty God do this first day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand & five make and publish this my last will & Testament in manner following that is to say first I lend unto my beloved wife Mary ____ during her natural life six Negroes to wit Gim, Lucy, Jacob, Dempsey, Sarah (could be Jacob) & old Lucy and also my plantation whereon I now live and all the land thereunto belonging also my farming tool conesting? of ploughs, Axes, weeding hoe & also these cows & calves two horses known by the name of Dolphin & Jack Demints, all my hogs, household & kitchen furniture except one desk I give to my son, William C. King & one black walnut table to my son John H. King. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter, Fanny Wiggins, and her heirs one Negro boy named Dempsey after the death of her said mother. Item I lend to my son, David King one negro boy named Jacob after the death of his s'd mother & if said David should have no heirs lawfully begotten of his body then to revert to my sons, Charles, Michael, John & William C. King & thus & also I lend unto my son, David King, during his natural life two negroes Arthur & Dinah and if s'd David King should die leaving no lawful heirs of his body then the s'd negros to revert to my sons Charles, Michael, John & William C. King & their heirs. I also give to my son David King the plantation whereon he now lives and all the land thereunto belonging. Item I give and bequeath to my son William C. King, one negro man named Green to him & his heirs & also one negro man named Gim after the death of his said mother & my carpenter & joyner tools. Item I give & bequeath to my son Charles King & his heirs one Negro man named Hampton & my coopers tools. Item I give to my son Michael one Negro man named Peter. Item I give & bequeath to my grandson Michael John Slade five shillings sterling money. Item I give to my daughter Mary Williams five shillings sterling money Item I give to my daughter Elizabeth Parker five shillings sterling money Item It is my will & desire that my plantation whereon I now live after the death of my said wife be sold and the money equally divided between my three sons & their heirs that is say Michael King, John H. King, & William C. King after taking out of the said money arising from the sale of the land Five hundred dollars for my son John H. King or his heirs & also it is that my negro wench Marian and her two children, Mathew & Dinah and any future increase be sold and the money arising from the sale of said Negroes be equally divided between my four children & their heirs Michael King, John H. King, William C. King and Fanny Wiggins after the death of their s'd mother Mary King. And I hereby make and ordain my two sons John H. King William C. king executors of this my last will & testament. In witness there of I the s'd Michael King have to this my last will & Testament set my hand and seal the day & year above written. Signed, sealed, published & declared by the s'd Michael King to be his last will & Testament Michael King in presence of L.A. Williams, Lot Harrell, David King March Term 1811 The above last will & Testament of Michael King was proved in open court by the oath of L.A. Williams one of the subscribing witnesses and on motion ordered to be recorded. The Additional Comments: David King, married Sarah Ruffin May 10, 1793 in Bertie County. They lived in Martin Co, and he died there with probated will Dec Term 1812. They had no heirs. Sarah returned to Bertie County, and probably died there. Her brothers, John and Thomas Ruffin, were executors for David King's will.
