Martin County, NC - Thomas Edmundson Will, 1790 ~~~~~~~~~~ In the name of God Amen, I, Thomas Edmundson of Martin County and State of North Carolina of the one part, being of sound mind and perfect memory, beholden to God and calling to mind the shortness of life and knowing it was appointed to all men once to die, do this 30th day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine (1789) make, publish and declare this my last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say first: #I give and bequeath unto my son William Edmundson one mare, two cows & calves, one feather bed and furniture, all of which I give unto my son William Edmundson, to him and his heirs forever. #I give and bequeath unto my son John Edmundson one horse, two cows & calves, one feather bed and furniture, all of which I give my son John Edmundson to him and his heirs forever. #I give and bequeath to my son Thomas Edmundson one horse, two cows & calves, one feather bed and furniture, one pewter dish, one pewter bason, half a dozen pewter plaits, one gun, one plough, hoe, ax, one weeding hoe, one cow & pigs and 300 weights of pork. If my son Thomas should decease without heir then his legacy to be equally divided between his two eldest brothers to wit: William and John Edmundson all that I given unto my son homas Edmundson to him and his heirs forever and my son Thomas Edmundson to take his legacy at the age of eighteen years. #I give unto my daughter Penny Edmondson one Negro boy named Sam, one feather bed and furniture, all that I give unto my daughter Penny Edmundson to her and her heirs forever. #I give and bequeath unto my son Pollard Edmondson the land and plantation whereon I now live, joining Loyd's line and my son William Edmondson's line, Nehemiah Stantons line, and Zech. Knight's, after my wife's decease or marriage, one feather bed and furniture, all that I give to my son Pollard Edmondson to him and his heirs forever. #I give unto my child that is not born that my wife now goes with, if a son by the name of Randolph, if a daughter Ann, one Negro woman named Sine (Sina) and the two first children that the said Negro woman Sinah shall half, if the said wench should have another child, I give it to my son Thomas Edmondson and any more thereafter my son Thomas hath his, I leave them to be divided between my three youngest children. #I lend unto my wife Ann Edmondson during her natural life or widowhood one Negro woman named Sine with the land and plantation whereon I now live with all the rest of my moveable estate that is not already disposed of in this will likewise. #I give and bequeath unto my wife's on James Hodge, two cows and calves, one feather bed and furniture, two years schooling to be paid out of my legacy lent to my wife all of which I give unto him and his heirs forever. And I do herein make and ordain my two sons William & John Edmundson, executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and dates above written, signed, sealed and acknowledged in the prescence of us who were present at the time of the signing and sealing thereof.
