NEAL CEMETERY

The Neal cemetery is on private land in the Glenwood section of McDowell 
County, North Carolina.  It was originally on land owned by the Neal family, 
later owned by the Byrd family.  I believe it is still owned by the Byrd 
family and is not easy to access.  I have not visited the cemetery for several 
years but I am providing this partial list of gravestones so that the 
information may be of some use.  If I have time when I am in the area I will 
complete the survey or perhaps someone else can finish the task.  There a 
number of unmarked graves, marked only by rocks.  These I am told are mainly 
slave graves.  My grandmother, Maggie Byrd Pyatt was born on the adjacent farm 
in 1887 and lived her early years there.  What I know about this cemetery I 
learned from her.  Most of the people buried there are relatives.  I have 
information about these people and will be happy to share it with interested 
parties.  Below is information from my notes.  The information may not be the 
precisely what is carved on the tombstones but it is how I made my notes.
