McDOWELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Paul Edward Whetstine, 19 May 2004

MARION - Paul Edward Whetstine, 78, of Coxes Creek Road, died Wednesday, 
May 19, 2004 at McDowell Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, he was 
the son of the late Fred and Ada Grindstaff Whetstine. He was also 
preceded in death by sisters, Mildred McFee and Mary Ethel Hollifield. He 
was a former employee of Harris Mining Company and a charter member of 
Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Faye McClellan Whetstine of the home; 
daughters, Phyllis Ollis and Barbara Snyder, both of Marion; sons, Rev. 
Daniel Whetstine of Burnsville, Phillip Whetstine of Green Mountain, and 
Bobby Whetstine of Marion; sisters, Genevieve Worley of Valdese, Louise 
Smith of Texas, and Frances Wilson of Morganton; brothers, Howard 
Whetstine of Mississippi, Arthur Whetstine of Georgia and Franklin 
Whetstine of Asheville; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and 
six great great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel Baptist Church. 
Revs. Darren Waldroup and Luther Carver officiated. Burial followed in 
the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday 
at the church. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville was in charge 
of arrangements.
