Mecklenburg COUNTY, NC - NEWSPAPERS - Charlotte Post, 7 Jul 1943 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- From the Charlotte Post, 1/7/1943 Miss Annie Johnson was hostess at a delightful party Thursday evening, entertaining at her home on East Worthington Avenue in honor of Miss Pattie Barringer Davis, whose wedding to Edwin Lindsey Wiggins will take place next week. The home was arranged with numerous bowls of white narcissi and fern. Games and contests were enjoyed, after which Miss Davis was given a crystal and china shower. Later an ice course was served. Peabody-Parrot FLORENCE, S. C., Jan. 8 - Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Parrot of Coward announce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Ruth Parrott, to Pfc. Duane P. Peabody, United States Marines, of Seattle, Washington, now stationed in N. C., which took place on December 29. Miss McLelland Becomes Bride of Mr. McColl STATESVILLE, Jan. 5. - In a noon service Friday, at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Ira H. Rawles, and Rev. Mr. Rawles, in Concord, Miss Sara Louise McLelland became the bride of Norman Hugh McColl. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr. Rawles who is pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church of Concord. Mrs. McColl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard B. McLelland, of Washington, D. C. She received her education at Anacostia Junior-Senior high school in Washington and Mitchell College, Statesville. She is now employed with the Merchants and Farmers Bank of Statesville. For the past three years she has made her home with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McLelland, near Statesville. Mr. McColl is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. McColl. He received his education at North Carolina State College and Cornell University, and is now employed with the Carnation company in Statesville. After a wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. McColl will he at home with Mr. McColl's parents on the Taylorsville road. POLK COUNTY COURT TO CONVENE JAN. 25 TRYON, Jan. 8-Polk county superior court will convene in the county courthouse at Columbus on Monday, January 25th. Judge Felix Alley of Waynesville will be on the bench with Solicitor Clarence 0. Ridings, of Forest City, representing the prosecution for the state. The jury list for the spring term court for this county was released on Wednesday, and Sheriff W. D. Hines has been busily engaged in summoning the jurors to duty. Mrs. Harris Is Hostess To Lane Chapter, U. D. C. The General James H. Lane chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, held its monthly meeting with Mrs. Julian Harris at her home on Altondale avenue yesterday afternoon. Hostesses with Mrs. Harris were Mrs. J. B. Rudisill, Mrs. E. R. Dimette, Mrs. Lee Bailey, Mrs. C. W. Hallenbeck, and Mrs. George Roberts. Mrs. Grady Ross, the president, presided. Splendid reports were given by the committee chairmen. The report of Mrs. L. B. Newell, benevolent chairman, was outstanding. She reported that five families were helped at Christmas with clothing and food amounting to $300. Mrs. Ross, the president, reported that approximately 3,315 children and teachers have listened to her talk on the Confederate Navy Yard and that 800 pupils have used the material in history classes. The chapter will renew its all-day Sews Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of Mrs. S. D. Morton with Mrs. S. L. Diggle, assistant hostess. Complete layettes are being made by the members for the babies of charity patients in the hospitals. After the husiness session Mrs. A. R. E4wards introduced Dr. Calvin Rea who gave an interesting and inspiring talk on General Robert E. Lee. After the meeting was adjourned the hostesses served sandwiches and tea.
