MARY LEE BUCHANAN ENGLISH 

HICKORY - Mary Lee Buchanan English, 81, of 19th Street NW, died Friday, April 
20, 2007 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born in Mitchell County, she was the 
daughter of the late Lecil Truett and Maggie Ethel Sullins Buchanan, and wife 
of the late Steve Wade English Sr. She was also preceded in death by a son, 
Freddie English; and a brother, Benny Buchanan. Prior to retirement she worked 
in Quality Control in the textile industry.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Read of the home and Diane Hawn of 
Hickory; a son, Steve English Jr. of Hickory; six grandchildren; and four 
great-grandchildren. 

A Celebration of Life ceremony was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gateway Baptist 
Church in Newton. The Revs. Jerome Walker and Mike McKinney officiated. Burial 
followed in Fairview Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. 
Monday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care Center 
and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658; to 
Gateway Baptist Church Building Fund, 3105 Sandy Ford Road, Newton, NC 28658; 
or to Royal Chapel Church of God, 7190 George Hildebran Road, Hickory, NC 
28602.
