Charlotte Observer: A serious shooting scrape took place in the lower part of
the county, Friday night, news of which only reached here yesterday morning.
Will Fewell, colored, was shot and mortally wounded by major Baxter, also
colored. The negroes were attending a dance at a negro house. Whiskey as usual
was plentiful and by the time the men had several drams a piece they waxed
belligerent.
