LEE HAND ----- His Death Yesterday Morning-The Old Leader of the Charlotte Grays Gone to His Last Rest. Capt. W. Lee Hand died at his home in this city, at 11 o'clock yesterday morning, and his body was interred in Elmwood cemetery at 11 o'clock this morning. Capt. Hand had been confined to his home by sickness for a long time, yet the news of his death was a painful surprise to his friends throughout the city. He was in his 50th year. Capt. Hand won his title in the war. He served the Confederacy as Captain of the Charlotte Grays (Co. A., 11th North Carolina) and made a reputation as one of the bravest men in the whole army. His comrades-in-arms all bear testimony to his unflinching courage and his dauntless bravery. The funeral services were conducted from the residence, corner of 6th and B streets, by Rev. R.C. Reed, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church. A very large concourse of sympathetic friends attended, and there was a profusion of beautiful floral offerings. The pall bearers were: Henry Duckworth, R.B. Alexander, J.M. Sims, W.B. Taylor, Henry H. Hill and D.P. Hunter, all members of Capt. Hand's old company.
