MR. L.D. HARGRAVE DEAD.

The End Came Yesterday, After a Long Illness - Funeral Services To-Day

The community was grieved yesterday to learn of the death of Mr. L.D. Hargrave, 
which occurred at his home on West Trade street yesterday morning at 9 o'clock.

Mr. Hargrave had been in failing health for a long time and had been seriously 
ill since September 2nd.  In the last few days he sank rapidly and the end was 
not unexpected.

Mr. Hargrave was born September 7th, 1857, in Mooresville, and moved to 
Charlotte in 1878, taking a position with the firm of Seigle & Company.  In 
1881 he became a partner in the dry goods firm of Hargrave & Wilhelm, but in a 
short time he severed his connection with the firm to take a position with J.D. 
Dunham & Company, wholesale dry goods merchants, of New York.  He held this 
position up to the time of his death.

He was married on August 20th, 1885, to Miss Laura Ross, who, with four 
children - Sarah, John, Estelle and Katherine - survives.  Two brothers, Mr. 
E.E. Hargrave, of Texas, and Mr. H.H. Hargrave, of Texas, and one sister, Miss 
Octavia Hargrave, of Mooresville, also survive.

Mr. Hargrave was a member of the First Presbyterian church of this city.  He 
was an upright, likable, manly gentleman whose death is much deplored.

The funeral services will be conducted from the First church this morning at 10 
o'clock by the pastor, Rev. Dr. J.R. Howerton.  The pall-bearers will be:  
Messrs. C.A. Moseley, H.A. London, Jr., W.C. Alexander, Frank H. Andrews, 
Lindsay Davis and J.H. Weddington.
