   It is our painful duty to record the death of one of our fellow students -- 
MR. JAS. A. HARTT, the eldest son of JOHN HARTT, ESQ. of Mecklenburg, aged 22 
years. His sickness was severe and protracted, and first appeared as measles, 
but soon changed to a more alarming and fatal disease, an inflammation of the 
liver.
   He had been at Davidson College for more than five years, and was in the 
Senior Class. He was a member of the Philantropic Society.
