J. M. HOUSTON DEAD. Aged Resident of County Dies at His Home in Hopewell. Mr. J. M. Houston, one of the oldest and best-known residents of the county, died at his home in Hopewell yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. He would have been 89 years of age in July. Death was due to the infirmities of his age. The funeral will be conducted this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Hopewell Church by Rev. T. B. Anderson, the pastor, who will be assisted by Rev. W. E. Mellwaine of Charlotte. Mr. houston had been living in that immediate vicinity for 60 years and was held in high esteem throughout the countryside. He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mr. W. M. Houston of Columbia, S. C., Mrs. S. T. McElroy of Johnson City, Tenn.; Mrs. A. W. Harris of Salisbury; Mrs. C. F. Alexander of Huntersville; Mr. James E. Houston of Yorkville, S. C..; Mr. J. E. Houston and Miss Addie Houston of Hopewell. One daughter, Miss Ella Houston, was a missionary for 20 years in Japan and died two years ago.
