HOUSTON TODAY Widow of Late S. F. Houston, Life Long Citizen of Charlotte, Passes Away. Mrs. Charlotte McGiloray (sic) Houston, widow of the late S. F. Houston and a life time citizen of Charlotte, passed away at 2:35 a. m. Thursday at her late residence, 312 West Eighth street. She was born in this city January 26, 1842. Her age therefore was 78 years. She was the daughter of the late James A. and Carolina A. McGiloray, of Charlotte. Except for a few years spent with her grand-father, Rev. A. B. McGiloray, an itinerent minister of the M. E. church South, and a member of the South Carolina conference, stationed at Bennettsville, S. C., her life was spent in this city, surrounded by a host of friends and loved ones. The beauty of her life and character, shown brightest around her own home and fireside, it was said yesterday by intimate friends. The devotion of mother and children was beautiful. Mrs. Houston suffered a fall last October, and has been confined to her bed since that time. She was a patient sufferer, and bore her affliction with Christian fortitude. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian church, having joined that church soon after her marriage to Mr. Houston in 1860. She leaves to mourn her loss Mrs. Mary Jane Collier, only sister, and nephew, Frank F. Jones, son of her youngest sister, Mrs. Maggie E. Jones who died in 1897, and the following children: Mrs. N. L. Savage, Mrs. Carrie E. Bass, Mrs. J. W. Roark, Miss Sarah McGiloray Houston, Mrs. Ed. G. Mullen, Ben F. Houston, of Charlotte, and Mr. Sam Houston, of Wadesboro, N. C. The funeral services will be conducted from her late residence, 313 West Eighth street this afternoon at 4 o'clock. The services will be in charge of Dr. A. A. McGeachey, pastor of the Second Presbyterian church assisted by Rev. Z. E. Barnhardt, pastor of Tryon Street methodist Episcopal church. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery. The pall bearers will be Mrs. Houston's six grand-sons: S. L. Savage, Frank Savage, Walter Savage, J. Ward Roark, Arnold Roark and H. Weldon Sheets.
