MR S. M. HOWELL DEAD.

He Passed Away at 1 O'Clock this Morning.

Mr. S. M. Howell, one of Charlotte's oldest citizens, died at 1 o'clock this 
morning.  Mr. Howell had been in failing health for some time.  He leaves a 
son, Mr. George A. Howell, and a daughter, Mrs. L. W. Sanders.  Mr. Howell was 
born 85 years ago last August.  He was born in New Jersey, but had lived here 
since 1853.

The funeral arrangements have not been made.
