From the obituary scrapbook of Ola Sing which contains obits of people
from the Steele Creek community.  Newspapers are not identified.

Death of Mr. Thomas Hays.  Oct. 28, 1896

Mr. Thomas E. Hayes died at his home in BerryHill township, of heart 
failure, last Wednesday morning at 4 o’clock.  He was born Nov. 1st, 
1857.  The funeral was held Friday at Steel Creek Church.  He leaves a 
mother, five brothers and four sisters to mourn his death.  He was very 
popular and leaves many friends who deeply regret his sudden death.
