Nov. 18, 1841   Charlotte Journal
   DIED, in Mecklenburg County, on the 9th inst., MR. ALEXANDER P. MARSHALL, 
aged about 30 years. MR. MARSHALL, being an officeer of the Steel Creek Troop 
of Cavalry, the officers, Dragoons, and ex-members of the Troop were called 
together by CAPT. A. G. NEEL. COL. THOMAS I GRIER took the Chair and MR. JOHN 
M. WILSON acted as secretary.
   A few brief and appropriate remarks from the Chair explained the object of 
the meeting for the purpose of giving a suitable and public expression of 
their regard for the character of the deceased; and on motion, the Chairman 
appointed COL. WM. M. GRIER, CAPT. A. G. NEEL and CAPT. H. N. NOX, a committee 
for that purpose. After a brief absence, the Committee reported the following:
   Whereas in the dispensation of Divine Providence, this Troop has been 
called by the death of ALEXANDER P. MARSHALL, to mourn the loss of an esteemed 
and efficient officer; and society to lament the untimely end of a most 
promising and estimable member: therefore,
   RESOLVED, that in token of repect for the memory of the deceased we will 
wear the usual badge of mourning on the lfet arm for 30 days and also on the 
day of our Muster.
   RESOLVED, that we tender our sincere sympathy to the bereaved fammily of 
our deceased brother in arms assuring them that in their affliction we also 
are afficted, and that a copy of these proceedings be sent to them.
   RESOLVED, that the Editors of the Jeffersonian and the Journal be 
respectfully requested to publish the proceedings of this meeting in their 
papers.
