Dec. 15, 1843         Charlotte Journal
   DIED, at his residence in Steel Creek, on the 30th day of November, JOHN 
McDOWELL, in the 69th year of his age. The deceased was born of pious parents 
who, having emigrated before the Revolutionary War from Pennsylvania, was 
among the first settlers of this county. For more than 30 years he was a 
ruling Elder of the Presbyterian Church.
