JASPER MILLER DIED YESTERDAY ----- Succumbed to Internal Injury After Brief But Brave Battle for Life. Burial Today. Mrs. Mary Fair Howell Miller, wife of Mr. Jasper Miller died yesterday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock at her home, No. 3 North Myers street after an acute illness of several days. She was 67 years old. Mrs. Miller was taken ill last Sunday night, but for several days previously she had not been well. Last Friday she spent with her sister, Mrs. L. W. Sanders, at her home on South Tryon street. Sunday night it was discovered that she was suffering from a ruptured artery and it was realized that her condition was desperate. A number of physicians and surgeons were called into consultation, but Mrs. Miller did not possess sufficient strength to undergo the ordeal of an operation. Though very weak, she retained consciousness until the last. Mrs. Miller was a native of Charlotte, having been born here October 2, 1858. She was educated at the Charlotte Female College and grew to womanhood here. On December 18, 1878, whe was married to Mr. Jasper Miller. Soon afterward they moved to Spartanburg. In 1883 they moved to Columbia and resided there until 1901 when they returned to Charlotte. Since that time they have made this their home. Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband and five children, Mr. George Lawrence Miller, Mrs. O. L. Watts, Mrs. Otis K. Asbury of Richmond, Va., Miss Carrie Louise Miller and Mr. Stephen Alexander Miller. Three children, Howell, Jasper, Jr., and Martha Elizabeth are deceased. Mrs. Miller is survived also by a sister and a brother, these being Mrs. L. W. Sanders and Mrs. George A. Howell, and by four grand-children, Nancy and William Watts, Stephen Lawrence Asbury and Lawrence Lee Miller. Mrs. Miller was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and gave unstintedly of her time and strength to the advancement of its work. so many and usch conclusive proofs had she given of her loyalty and devotion to the Church and its allied organizations that she was relied upon for counsel, aid and support, and never did she disappoint this expectation. In her home her golden qualities of character were most clearly seen, for she was devoted to her husband and to her children, and no sacrifice was too great to make for them. Upon her family she lavished a wealth of affection and was herself a tower of strength in the family counsels, combining force of character, with sunniness of disposition, insight, tact and serenity. But not only at home and in the Church, but throughout the city wherever she was known her loss will be deplored. The funeral will be conducted this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock from the residence. The pall-bearers will be: Messrs. H. W. Glasgow, John B. Alexander; George B. Hartman, J. S. Myers, W. W. Grier, J. J. Hutchison, B. F. Withers and J. B. McLaughlin.
