Dec. 24, 1846         Charlotte Journal
   DIED, in Charlotte, on the 21st inst., MRS. LILLIS M. OATES, in the 40th 
year of her age, wife of B. OATES, ESQ., and youngest daughter of the late 
JUDGE LOWRIE, by his first marriage. MRS. OATES was the subject of severe 
afflictions for many years. She united herself (together with her husband) to 
the Methodist Episcopal Church at Rock Springs camp ground, in the year 1832, 
to which she was ardently attached. In her death, the Church has lost a 
devoted friend, her husband a dutiful wife, her children (three in number) a 
fond and kind mother.
