MRS. GEO. A. PAGE DIES AFTER LONG SPELL

Wife of Former Commissioner of Public Safety.

Mrs. George A. Page, wife of the former commissioner of public safety died 
Thursday night at her home, 233 North McDowell street, after a critical illness 
of 10 weeks of heart trouble and asthma.  She was 69 years of age.

Pending arrival of distant relatives, the funeral arrangements have not been 
completed but it is probable that the services will be conducted some time 
Saturday at the home.  Burial will be in Oaklawn cememtery.

Surviving are her husband, and six children:  Mrs. H. L. Davenport, mrs. A. W. 
Banks, and Roy A. Page, of Charlotte; Harry Page, of Lincolnton, Ernest P. 
Page, of Huntersville, and George R. Page, of Lansing, Mich.  There are also 21 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren surviving.

Mr. Page was commissioner of public safety under the McNinch administration.  
For two decades or more he conducted a carriage repair shop at Fourth and 
Church streets and is one of the most widely known men of Charlotte.  He is 
also an ordained minister in the Methodist church.

Mrs. Page was born on Staten Island, N. Y., December 1, 1853, the daughter of 
Ephraim and Martha Parker.  November 28, 1872, she was wed to Mr. Page.  The 
greater part of her life has been spent in Charlotte.  During her residence 
here she has been a member of Tryon Street Methodist church.  She was a woman 
greatly interested in her home life and during the latter years of her life, 
ill health had kept her close and she was drawn still nearer the family she 
loved so dearly.
