The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) 6 August 1897
Charlotte Observer: Mr John Parr, the young man who was struck by the train near
Captain J C Dowd's Saturday night, an account of which appeared in Sunday's
Observer, died Sunday night at 9 o'clock. He never regained consciousness. The
skull was completely shattered and the brain exposed.
