Her illness became manifest in November, and she moved steadily onward toward the inevitable. Since Easter Sunday her condition had been critical, and her death had been almost momentarily expected. Mrs. Pharr was born and reared under the teaching and customs of the old south and she lived up to its traditions. She was a woman of eminent dignity, fine mind and strong personality. She was strong in her convictions, and lived close to the faith of her fathers and to all that made them the bulwark of strength of the county in the days of the revolution. she was the daughter of the late John L. Pharr and Mary Barringer and was born in Mecklenburg county, September 7, 1840. McManaway and Miss Gertrude Pharr, both of whom survive. The family lived in a beautiful home at Rocky river from 1870 to 1875 when they moved to Charlotte, residing on East Sixth street. Mr. Pharr died in 1880. Mrs. Pharr moved to Lincolnton and resided there several years, then went to Spartanburg, S. C., being absent from Charlotte in all 10 years. Mrs. Pharr came back to Charlotte at the expiration of that time and this city was continuously her home for the remainder of her life. In fatih she was a Presbyterian, being a life long member of that church, joining at Sugar Creek, and removing her membership to the First Presbyterian church this city, of which she was a devoted and consistent member to the day of her death. She was one of 11 children, all now dead. Beside her two daughters, she is survived by her step-son, Dr. Theodore Pharr, of Concord, and two step grandchildren, Zeke Johnson, of Charlotte, and Zeb Johnson, of Pineville, also a little grandson, Hugh McManaway. She also has three nieces, Mrs. S. E. McFadden, of Chester, S. C.; Mrs. J. L. Cottrell and Miss Lila Creighton, of Florida. The funeral service will be conducted tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock at the residence of Mrs. McManaway, in Myers park, by Dr. Albert Sidney Johnson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.
