CHARLES POLK of Statesburg, S. C. COL. POLK was a native, and for many years a resident of North Carolina. He entered the army at the early age of 14 and served until the termination of the contest, which ushered us into independence with honor to himself and advantage to his country. During the most alarming and threatening period of the Revolution, he was always found at his post, calm and collected; and it may with justice to his character be said, that he feared death less than defeat. If a warm devotion to the welfare of his country, an ardent desire to see her flourish, entitle to praise and admiration, they are justly and amply due the deceased.
