Death of Mr. W.A. Potts - One of Mecklenburg County's Most Prominent and 
Influential Farmers Passes at His Home at Davidson - Buried Yesterday.

Davidson, July 8 - Mr. W.A. Potts, whose death has been expected for some 
days, passed away at his residence at 2:30 yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Potts was in his 46th year, having been born in January, 1866. He is 
survived by his wife and eight children. His wife was Miss Lucy Thompson, to 
whom he was married in February, 1887. The children are Mr. Cloyd Potts, 
postmaster at Davidson, Mr. Marshall Potts, Louis Potts, Misses Madge, 
Catherine, Winifred and Elizabeth and Jack, the last named being on 7 years of 
age.

Mr. Potts was a ruling elder in Bethel church. From his boyhood he has been in 
the communion of the church, having joined the Presbyterian church in 
Charlottesville when he was a student at Pantops Academy in 1884.

His funeral was conducted here today at 10:30 a.m. by his pastor, Rev. John E. 
Wool, assisted by Rev. Dr. Richards and the interment was made in the local 
cemetery.

Mr. Potts, although a semi-invalid for years past, was a remarkably successful 
farmer and a prosperous man of affairs. He owned some 800 or 900 acres of 
land, only a part of which he had inherited from his father's estate, the late 
Capt. J.M. Potts. Mr. Potts was a man of sterling character, of influence and 
power in the community, and popular with all classes. His half-brother, Mr. 
J.M. Potts, died last Christmas.
