Potts Will Be Held at His Home This Morning and Was Born in Charlotte Fort Mill, SC, Feb. 22 - James Huddleston Potts, aged 81 years, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Fort Mill township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Dovie J. Erwin, here shortly after noon today. He was born in Charlotte, March 14, 1838, and lived there and in Mecklenburg County the greater part of his life. He was at one time a farmer in upper Fort Mill and later moved to Pineville, coming to Fort Mill about 12 years ago and living here until his death. He was a soldier in the war between the states, serving from April, 1861, to April, 1865, in Company B, First North Carolina volunteers in the artillery, and was frequently cited for bravery and heroism in action. He was married in 1867 to Miss Nannie Culp, whose death occurred in 1912. Surviving him are the following named sons and daughters: Mrs. Eunice Downs of Pineville; Mrs. T.E. Sharpe of Greenville, SC; J.H. Potts, Jr. of Washington, DC; B.M. Potts of Steel Creek, NC and Mrs. Dovie J. Erwin and John S. Potts, of Fort Mill. Funeral services will be conducted at the home tomorrow morning by Dr. J.W.H. Dyches, pastor of the Baptist church, of which Mr. Potts was a member, and the interment will be made tomorrow afternoon in Flint Hill church cemetery.
