SMITH, ESQ. -- We regret to have to confirm the sad intelligence received last week of the death of our late esteemed fellow townsman, FRANKLIN L. SMITH, ESQ. He departed this life on the 6th of July, at Coffeeville, Miss., of congestive fever. On the 1st July, he was taken unwell, but was not very ill until the 5th, when he was suddenly taken worse and continued on through the day, and died about sunnrise on the 6th. A few days before this melancholy event, he was in full enjoyment of health and bid as fair to live as many years as any of us, but he is now consigned to the silent tomb. The reception of the news of his death filled our citizens with gloom, for he was respected by the whole community. -- He had many friends but few enemies. MR. SMITH emigrated from this town last fall, and settled himself in Coffeeville with the intention of devoting himself to the practice of law, hoping to find that encouragement to laudable industry and perseverance, to which his talents entitled him, but which was withheld him by his native State, and was no doubt buoyed with the hope of passing many years of usefulness, but he has been cut off in the prime of life. He has left a young wife and one child, a widowed mother, whose pride he was, and a lrge circle of relations and friends.
