SUMMERVILLE DIED EARLY TODAY Esteemed Woman Passes Suddenly at Local Hospital After an illness of less than three weeks, Mrs. Martha Henrietta Summerville, wife of A. C. Summerville, died Thursday morning about 2 o'clock at St. Peter's Hospital where she had been removed the day before for the taking of X-ray pictures. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at her home, 209 North Poplar street by Rev. J. T. McCutchan assistant pastor of Second Presbyterian Church, of which Mrs. Summerville was a faithful member. Interment will be in the family plot at Elmwood cemetery. Mrs. Summerville had been sick only a short time and apparently was improving. She was removed to St. Peter's Hospital Wednesday but early Thursday morning there was a change for the worse and she died at 7 a.m. Mrs. Summerville was the oldest daughter of the late George H. and Mary McDonald Wearn. She was born at the old Wearn home place on Tuckaseege Road January 10, 1857. She was, therefore, 65 years of age. February 13, 1878 she was wed to Alexander Summerville, living her entire life in this county and city. In addition to her husband, she is survived by the following children: Mrs. R. H. Hart, Miss Hazeline Summerville Loyde, William, Elbert, and J. H. Summerville, all of Charlotte. Another son Merton Summerville, died about seven years ago. There are also six grandchildren. J. H. Wearn, George W. Wearn, and William R. Wearn, brothers, also survive as well as two sisters, Mrs. J. T. McGee and Mrs. J. A. Berryhill, both of the county. Mrs. Summerville was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, being a member of Paw Creek Church before coming to the city. She had a wide circle of friends, drawn to her by her gentleness of spirit and kindness of heart. One of her outstanding characteristics was the fact she was always in the sick room, rendering aid and bringing cheer.
