Died in this city, on the night of the 28th ult., after a lingering illness of many months, Mr. Joseph W. Wilson, in the 45th year of his age. In the death of Mr. Wilson the community has lost a good, kind-hearted Christian man, and his family a devoted husband and father. Mr. Wilson had been a great sufferrer for the last two or three years of his life. He toiled and labored many weeks and months when he should have been in bed, but all for the comfort and love he had for those who were dependant upon him. The writer had the privilege of being with him very often, and has heard him say time and again that all he cared to live for was his family and friends. He was one of the most energetic of men. He often expressed the hope that he would be restored to health, and that hope did not desert him until a short time before his death, and then he set his house in order and prepared himself to meet his God. He died in the full assurance of a blessed immortality. He often prayed that the Lord would take him peacefully, which prayer was answred, for he breathed his last as quietly as an infant going to sleep. He also often expressed a wish that he might die so as to be buried on the Sabbath day, which wish was fulfilled. The writer has often witnessed many death-bed scenes, but none so impressive and consoling to his family and friends. A few hours before his death he offered up to the throne of grace a mosst fervent and impressive prayer in behalf of his family and friends, and especially in behalf of his aged mother, whom he most devotedly loved. So has passed away a good man to his final reward. Mr. Wilson connected himself with the Baptist Church several years ago. His funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. A.G. McManaway, who delivered a beautiful discouse, which was listened to by a large concourse of friends when his remains were laid at rest in Elmwood Cemetery, there to lie until the resurrection morn. And may the God of all grace and, love, and mercy bless and comfort his bereaved family, is the earnest prayer of A Friend.
