Lawing, dated 12/2/1863, codicil dated 4/26/1864, recorded Book J, page 223, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. (John Middleton Lawing, son of William A. and Jane Waddell Lawing, b. Jan. 13, 1842, d. 1865?) I, John M. Lawing, if the County of Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows. (1) That my Executor or Administrator shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the wishes of my relatives and friends and erect head stones over my grave and pay for the same together with my just debts our of the moneys that may first come into his hands. Item: I give and devise to my brother William P. Lawing the whole of my estate real and personal, which I own at my death. In witness whereof I, the said John M. Lawing, have the use and benefit of all my estate real and personal during her natural life and if any of my estate is left at her death then to go according to the within will in witness whereof I the said John M.
